In the last few years, I have bought two pairs of hiking boots for gardening and hiking. After a few months, I have passed my new boots along to friends because I have found them to be too heavy. Its like carrying weights around on my feet. Its been challenging for me to find lightweight, hiking boots that I like. When I was in Scotland last year traveling with friends, I noticed one of the guys was wearing what looked like lightweight hiking boots. He told me they were a good brand in the UK and held up pretty well, since he was a weekly hiker. Since he wore my boot size, I asked to try on his boots . Long story short, these were the kind of boots I have been looking for. Hiking boots, but fairly lightweight for daily work outside and hiking on the weekends.Back in the USA, I ordered a pair of the boots but I made the mistake initially of not understanding the shoe size conversion from the UK to the U.S. I normally wear a size 10 wide in women's (very hard to find womens' wide hiking boots). I ordered a size 9 men's, thinking that would be ok as people often recommend going a half size up on hiking boots. The boots were too big, but for the low price, I decided to keep them as backup boots for snowy days in Chicago. I then ordered a size 8 1/2 mens and I am really happy with them. Lightweight but a good hiking boot. I've been wearing them around in the snow here in Chicago and they keep my feet warm and are great!
